Victoria Falls

Revel in the spray of the world's seventh natural wonder

To think what David Livingstone must have thought when he first encountered what were to become known as the Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning ‘The Smoke that Thunders’. The Victoria Falls really need to be seen to be believed and our itineraries aim to give you the opportunity to experience much of what this enchanting part of the world has to offer. As one of Southern Africa's gateway points, the Victoria Falls serve as a fantastic entry or exit point for any safari itinerary comprising the Okavango Delta, Mana Pools, the Lower Zambezi, Hwange, Caprivi, Chobe, the Upper Zambezi and of course the Falls themselves. Activities for the more adventure-oriented include bungee jumping, white water rafting, lion encounters, elephant rides and conquering your fears in the Devil’s Pool.

sample itinerary - 4 days

Day 1 - After checking in at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, you will probably want to relax with your itinerary in one hand and a drink in the other while you gaze upon the lodge's waterhole in the Zambezi National Park. Once you've had a chance to settle in, you'll be at your leisure to stroll on through to the celebrated 'Boma - Place of Eating.' This is a dining experience unlike any other and if sampling the local delicacy of Mopane worms isn't quite your thing, perhaps enjoying more traditional cuisine to the accompaniment of African drums will be.

Day 2 - This will be the day to visit the Victoria Falls National Park where you'll get the opportunity to see the famed curtain of water as the Zambezi plunges a hundred metres to the First Gorge below. In addition to witnessing the grandeur of the world's largest waterfall, you'll be able to take a casual stroll through the rainforest which has come into existence as a result of the continuous spray generated by the massive waterfall. After leaving the National Park, you'll have the chance to peruse the wares of the local vendors before planning your activities for day three.

Day 3 - Your third day in Victoria Falls will see you enjoy a helicopter ride, a sunset cruise on the Upper Zambezi and perhaps a dip in the Devil's Pool for the more adventurous. This natural infinity pool is ranked as THE top experience in Africa and after having done it ourselves, we can't recommend it enough - it offers an exquisitely unique view of the falls and it'll get your heart racing too. After all of that adrenaline, you'll get to cap off the day with an evening in the Siduli Hide. Or, you could stay in Zambia at a property we happen to be quite partial to!

Day 4 - If they aren't included in your itinerary elsewhere, a day trip to either Hwange National Park or Chobe National Park in Botswana. Or you might simply prefer a change of scenery in the vicinity of the Victoria Falls? If you'd like to keep things local, a walk with lions or a ride with elephants might be more your thing. Alternatively, we could arrange a cultural visit to one of the region's villages for you. Whatever you ultimately decide on, your time in Victoria Falls is guaranteed to deliver and when coupled with its ideal central Southern African location, it's almost a must for any safari itinerary.
